DARK DETAIL ENHANCEMENT IN COLOR IMAGES BY COMBINING GUIDED FILTERING AND RETINEX

  • In response to the problem that many image enhancement techniques enhance the dark details of images while the bright images appear too bright, a method of enhancing the dark details of color images based on guided filtering and Retinex is proposed. The algorithm took the image processed by guided filtering and combined with the Retinex idea, performed the restricted histogram technique to correct the brightness, and outputted the color image by fusion processing. The experimental results prove that the method can not only clearly present dark image details but also effectively improve the information entropy and clarity of the enhanced image to achieve the best visual effect of human vision.
